In April I traveled to Europe for the 2017 Alongsider Gathering in Albania. I want to share some of the ways I see God at work across Europe, and the part which Alongside Ministries plays. Thank you for your prayer and financial partnership which make alongside ministry possible!
In France Alongsiders James and Cheryl Cloyd recently moved to Strasbourg after James was called to serve as the minister of a multi-ethnic parish. The elders also recognized Cheryl’s gifts and commissioned her to serve in ministry. Seventy five percent of the neighborhood consists of immigrants who speak about 50 different languages. This body of believers shows the love of Jesus by reaching out to the community through the ministry of Les Disciples (“The Disciples”) serving hundreds of children and their families with after-school tutoring, hot meals, and assistance for those seeking employment or housing. James is pictured above leading communion on Easter Sunday.
In Albania Alongside has supported Pastor Arjan Larashi and partnered with the Bilisht Evangelical Church since it was planted about 21 years ago. On Easter Sunday the church was filled to capacity with 230 people, 30 of whom responded to an invitation to follow Jesus. Many of the visitors came from the surrounding villages as a result of vigorous outreach. In just the past year Bilisht church members have given away 500 Bibles and started 3 new church plants in villages. There is now a total of 7 village church planting projects. The harvest is multiplying!
Arjan and Moza Larashi
When he spoke about the harvest, Jesus instructed us to pray that God would raise up and send more workers.
In places as diverse as Scotland and Romania churches are requesting Alongside Ministries to send workers. God has been answering prayer, thank you for praying! Scott and Karen Daily are among several new applicants and candidates. After visiting Scotland, where they hope to serve, they traveled to Albania for the Gathering. In this picture Alongsiders and Board Members pray for Scott and Karen.
Another new Alongsider, Maimona Shafir, recently began serving in southern France, where visitors and immigrants from North Africa arrive every day. At the House of Hope they are greeted with hospitality, friendship and the good news of Jesus Christ. At The Gathering, Maimona told the story of a young man who came to France from Tunisia with violent intent and instead came to faith after he came to know the love of Jesus through the House of Hope. He is now studying and preparing for Christian ministry.
In coming weeks we will post more stories on our website at www.alongside.org. Stay tuned! Europe is beset by tremendous challenges, what better time for the gospel to bear fruit and the church to grow?
With so much to be done, more prayer and more workers are needed. Would you consider a generous gift of $100 this month to sustain and grow Alongside Ministry through the summer months? Or perhaps a regular, recurring monthly gift?
Your gift in any amount makes a difference, thank you for your partnership in Alongside Ministry!
Yours in Christ,
