Our roots date back to the 1960s and 1970s when Christians from different cultures began to get to know each other. Bonds of friendship and prayer grew and trust was built. Churches in all three cultures sent and received young people as ministry interns. A growing passion for the renewal of the Church in western cultures became the foundation of Alongside Ministries’ vision.

In 1978, the First Presbyterian Church of Fresno, California formally launched Alongside Ministry. Five years laster, in 1983, the Alongside Ministries International was incorporated in Washington State as a 501(c)(3) Christian ministry having developed into an international training and sending mission with long-term ‘Alongsiders’ serving in Europe, Great Britain, and North America.
